Guided Theatre: February 2020

Hello and welcome to your February addition of GUIDED THEATRE, the hub for all thing’s theatre, including news, the hottest shows and where to get your tickets.

February, the month of love, pancakes and millions of school kids enjoying their half term holidays. So, what should you look out for this month:

Waitress:

Jenna, a pie-making expert working as a waitress in a small diner in America. With her friends Dawn and Becky, she dreams of happiness and escaping her marriage but after ‘accidently’ falling pregnant by her husband and being introduced to the new neighbourhood doctor, things get complicated.

Waitress has been in London for ages, so why care now? Well from the 27th January Sara Bareilles the writer of the show and Broadway star Gavin Creel will be joining the cast (gasp) for a limited time only. Tickets will likely be hard to come by so book your tickets now to avoid missing out! The show is running at the Adelphi Theatre until 4th July 2020.

Must see shows in February:

The Vault Festival – 28th January to 22nd March. Watch Comedy, Theatre, Cabaret, Drag, Dance, Music and much more all under the glow of the Leake Street Arches graffiti tunnel. This festival celebrates all things Fringe Theatre, visit www.vaultfestival.com/ for more information.

John Gabriel Borkman – opening the 11th February at The Bridge Theatre

Prince of Egypt – opening on the 5th February at the Dominion Theatre.

Nora: A Doll’s House – opening 5th February at the Young Vic.

Be More Chill – Opening on 12th February at The Other Palace

Top tip

The February half term is one of the busiest and most expensive times to watch theatre in London. Avoid any and all children’s shows unless you have children and you just can’t avoid this time.  This includes Matilda, School of Rock and especially The Lion King, tickets can be as high as £300 for a ticket to see The Lion King on a Saturday!

Theatre news:

Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) is going to be staring in Chekhov’s classic play ‘The Seagull’ at the Playhouse Theatre from March. A Jamie Lloyd Company production (Evita 2019, Cyrano de Bergerac 2020) I would imagine it will be another hit!

‘Hamilton’ has finally allowed TodayTix to sell their tickets! The award-winning Musical came to London in December 2017 and has been a sell-out show ever since. With its high security and high prices, it has seemed out of reach for most of us, however you can now get tickets for £40.50 from the much-loved app TodayTix.

‘City of Angel’ is returning to London on 4th March to the Garrick Theatre. It won an Olivier award during its run at the Donmar Theatre in 2014 and is was a shock that it didn’t transfer to the Westend. Luckily for us it has come back and is staring Hadley Fraser, Theo James, Rosalie Craig, Rebecca Trehearn, Jonathan Slinger with Nicola Roberts and Vanessa Williams! What a treat.
