Happy Earth Day 2022

The theme of World Earth Day 2022 is ‘Invest In our Planet’ which is calling for businesses to shift towards sustainable practices. How are we at London Guided Walks doing our bit?

Fifty years ago, the first Earth Day started an environmental revolution. Now, more than 1 billion people in 192 countries now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world. We are collectively responsible for the planet and can help accelerate the transition to an equitable, prosperous green economy for all. Unless governments, institutions, businesses, and individuals act now, climate change will continue to deeply damage economies, increase scarcity, drain profits and job prospects, and impact us all.

We at London Guided Walks want to be part of the solution. We try to be as sustainable as we can be, here are a few examples how we are doing this:

  • All of our guided walks and private tours are on foot, no driver guides here!
  • Our treasure hunt prizes are quality products which people will love to use time and time again
  • All our tickets are digital, thereby reducing the amount of paper used
  • We encourage customers to travel by public transport by organising our events to start at a train/tube station

When it comes to individual action for the common good, one of the best ways that people can make an impact for our planet is by cleaning up our public spaces. Our pollution problem is getting out of hand and our environment is suffering from it. Open landfills emit dangerous greenhouse gasses, waste and pollution that enter our oceans and freshwater. Microplastics even make it into our food and the air we breathe. On a personal level, many guides use reusable coffee cups and water bottles to minimise waste and some even choose to wear non leather shoes!

No matter how little the change, it’s a change for good, a pebble creating a ripple effect. Leading by example is the best thing any of us can do.

“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” – Socrates

What ripple effect will you choose to cause today?
